What We Do

TicTacToe.now does one thing: it lets you play tic tac toe, right now. No downloads, no accounts, no "premium" versions of a game humanity has played in some form for over three thousand years. Open the page, tap a square, play.

Why We Built It

Most tic tac toe sites bury the game under pop-ups and ad walls. We didn't like that, so we built the opposite. The board loads first. Everything else is optional.

Who It's For

Kids learning their first strategy game, adults killing five minutes, and anyone who wants to test a move against a computer opponent that plays perfectly. If you want the full rulebook first, our rules page covers every version we offer.

What's on the Site

  • Easy, Medium and Hard computer opponents - From a relaxed trainer for kids to a mathematically perfect minimax player that has never lost a game.
  • 5×5 four-in-a-row - The bigger board that turns a solved game back into a real contest.
  • 2 player mode - Pass-and-play with a friend, with fair alternating starts and a running score.
  • Strategy guides - The openings, the fork, and everything else that separates winners from everyone else.

For Younger Players

Not every visitor wants a minimax opponent. Our kids page has a gentler take on the game, and the printable boards let you play offline with paper and a pencil.

For the Curious

If you've ever wondered why the game always ends in a draw between two good players, our math page walks through the proof. Our history page traces the game back to ancient Egypt.

Who Makes TicTacToe.now

TicTacToe.now is an independent site launched in 2026 by a small team that builds free, single-purpose web games. We're not a large publisher with a network of forty games - This site does one thing, which is a big part of why it stays fast and clutter-free.

How We Check Our Facts

The strategy and math here aren't guesswork. The numbers behind our computer opponents come from simulations of 50,000 games per difficulty, run with the exact code the site uses to play you - You can see the win, draw and loss rates on each mode page, and the simulation script ships in the site's source. The historical and mathematical facts (the 255,168 possible games, the 1858 first appearance in print, the minimax proof) are drawn from established tic tac toe research and kept consistent across our math and history pages.

Our Principles

  • Free means free. Every mode, every page, forever.
  • Fast on every device. The site is lightweight and mobile-first - It works on the phone in your pocket and the laptop on your desk.
  • Private by default. No account is required and your session scores live in your own browser. See our privacy policy for the details.

Three Things That Make Us Different

  1. No wait time. The board is playable the instant the page opens, not after a loading screen.
  2. A real Hard mode. Most "unbeatable AI" claims online are bluffs. Ours actually is - it uses minimax search, so it never makes a losing move.
  3. Built for one game, done well. We didn't bolt tic tac toe onto a network of forty other games. It's the only thing this site does, which is why it's fast and clutter-free.
